Every artist compares their art to that of others, one way or another. The common train of thought behind this is that looking at a master's technique intently and figuring out what worked for them can lead to one attributing those qualities to their own technique and, naturally, reaching a higher level of skill. There may also be some good in looking at someone you think is sub-par to figure out the mistakes they made, become more conscious of your own errors, and ultimately correct yourself.
Do you do either of these? Do you just follow plain intuition?
I always compare myself whith permabegs to feel superiority despite being beg
>This is /ic/ in a nutshell
Todd Mcfarlene says this is what he did all the time. It apparently is what gave him the confidence to even try - he'd look at shitty comics, and say "I can do better than this", and then proceed to do so.
Personally I hate looking at bad work, I always feel like I'll pick up a bad habit from them somehow.
At first I said it memeing but lowkey doing it, now I'm motivated to do it more.
Seeing at what was popular on webtoons motivated me. I was honestly flabbergasted at what was popular, and I'm not even talking about the just the art.
>Do you do either of these? Do you just follow plain intuition?
Both of those, and also the intuition thing. Just pick knowledge wherever it is.
That, is cringe though.
You can get confidence by looking at yourself slowly improving.

Take your index finger, draw a circle in the air above the bad artwork 3 times clockwise, then 3 times counter-clockwise. Now you can look at the work without bad habits jumping on you.
But don't you forget to close the safe portal by drawing the 6 circles again, starting counter-clockwise this time, naturally.

Fucking god damn it Anon, I followed your advice and I ended up summoning Satan! Now he's just crashing at my place and refusing to leave, and he says he won't pay any rent... AND TO TOP IT OFF I PICKED UP ALL THE BAD HABITS, YOU FUCK!
Whats worse?
Being cringe but doing what you like or being a little bitch that contains itself because of what others could say or would think?
I know the answer, what about you anon?
I have absolutely no clue how my point is in any way related about having to contain oneself, nor about caring of what others would say or think.
All I'm saying is that's it's cringe to purposefully look down on others to feel superior. Especially when they are better alternatives to self-motivate, as already alluded to, which require neither looking down on others, nor looking for ways to feel superior.
You guys have weird psyche.
Don't care. I'm literally Todd Mcfarlene If he was a beg
Of course I do
I can't understand fags that pretend not to be competitive
Artists would kill your family for a commission or even a few followers/likes
>I can't understand fags that pretend not to be competitive
Comparing yourself to other has absolutely nothing to do with being competitive. I compare myself to others all the time, but I'm one of the least competitive guys on Earth, like, literally.
Ok
Right?
Ah, yeah, it can happen, should have mentioned. But don't worry, in reality Satan is just a big sissy, just slap her in the face and she'll know who's boss.
