A good visual library, a strong education on art history, and a strong repertoire of artists you can use for inspiration. You don’t even need to study, just read articles online, look around on instagram, lots of good accounts posting niche paintings you might not know about. The internet is kind of like a landfill, it takes effort to find good stuff but the good stuff will usually be very good.
Well you gotta dip your toes in at some point, and “good” is wholly subjective, if every anon ITT gave their advice on one painting it would be a clusterfuck since all of us have different tastes and wants. Fuck I should’ve used a more neutral term, but I’m sure the anon I replied to gets it
yeah, art is subjective, style is subjective, but somehow trends exists and the ppl gravitate to certain things in groups, instead of keeping it all you know.... subjective.

Honestly that’s by far the hardest thing, keeping tabs on trends and what’s hip.
just consume a lot of media and find the things you like
then implement them in your art
no one is born with a visual library and a style, it's all built from what you experienced as an artist
>come do hundreds of hours of free unpaid labor for my youtube channel and i'll pay you in exposure and maybe you can win some prize like a course that you can pirate for free anyway
fuck off sinix, no one cares about this bullshit
I was disappointed the last few times I entered because you could always tell you the "regulars" were and who just dropped by for the event.
The regulars would get a lot of focus and critiques while everyone else just gets an >oh that's cool i guess
>you could see plenty of lower quality submissions get a lot more focus just because sinix recognized them.
There is also many good submissions that are not chosen, even winners from last year are not that good, you just have to be good enough to not get pruned and avoid burning out.
Not everyone is equal, it might be hard to accept but some of those "regulars" are just more interesting or people see potential in them so obviously you can't give everyone the same level of attention, people will focus on what they are interested in and what others are interested in. Pareto distributions exist everywhere, it's a fact of life and the universe.
You can start by checking out past entries, here's some tips:
Character needs to have personality, show a variety of poses and expressions. Keep in mind that Sinix is a hyper liberal so consider that when designing a character, make it as gay as possible like most entries.
Fuck off, Rob.
>Fuck off, Rob.
Don't know who that is or what he did, I'm new to this.
The same skills needed to stand out in a sea of other people.
Strong fundamentals and stylistic flare.
>Strong fundamentals and stylistic flare.
I know how to learn the former, but the latter I don't even know where to begin.

that's assuming he knows what good stuff is.
agree, the latter is a talent, you either have it or steal from theories and trends, but even that needs finesse.

What is the good stuff?

Thanks for your input anon, I think I need this:
>strong repertoire of artists you can use for inspiration.
The former is like a chisel, the latter is the stone you carve out what's inside. No one else can help you find it.

Well, I'm not sinix but because of your comment now I'm having second thoughts about participating lol.
Sinix is a commie fag so this makes it particularly ironic-but typical of such people honestly
I was disappointed the last few times I entered because you could always tell you the "regulars" were and who just dropped by for the event.

>oh that's cool i guess
maybe you just suck
that's also true, but you could see plenty of lower quality submissions get a lot more focus just because sinix recognized them.
The ones who get in also always follow that format of
>this is so good. also i know him from my discord lol
>you could see plenty of lower quality submissions get a lot more focus just because sinix recognized them.

I kept trying since 2021 but Sinix never saw my worth :(.
